Tectonic 1.2 available with increased scalability and new namespace tools

Today we're thrilled to announce version 1.2 of Tectonic, the CoreOS enterprise Kubernetes distribution for running and managing application container clusters. Tectonic is a completely supported technology stack for deploying containers in production. Built atop the CoreOS Linux operating system and the Kubernetes cluster orchestrator, Tectonic packages an array of tools for deploying, monitoring, and managing applications and infrastructure.

Tectonic 1.2 delivers improvements and enhancements throughout the product, including the improved scalability of Kubernetes v1.2, and first class support for namespaces in the Tectonic Console, providing new axes along which to organize and partition resources and the applications consuming them.

Create Kubernetes namespaces

Kubernetes 1.2 supports more nodes and more pods per node, with each pod consuming only a quarter of the resources it required in previous releases. That means you can get more done with your current capacity, and scale each cluster all the way up to 1,000 nodes running up to 30,000 pods. Kubernetes namespaces are a fundamental tool to master this new capacity, organizing your cluster's workloads and resources in configurable ways.

In the latest Tectonic Console, namespace creation and filtering are graphical operations. Search for namespaces by label on the search screen, then drill down to view and sort namespaces using a new namespace detail screen. Or, create namespaces from anywhere in the Console using controls in the right hand navigation.

With powerful graphical namespace manipulation and sorting, cluster admins and developers have the benefit of easily allocating compute across the organization. Teams can marshal infrastructure and applications in the Tectonic cluster along lines that make sense for their organizations and business units.
