AWS: Installation

Step 1: Download and Run Installer

Make sure a current version of either the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browser is set as the default browser on the workstation where Installer will run.

Download the Tectonic installer.

wget https://releases.tectonic.com/releases/tectonic_1.4.7-tectonic.1.tar.gz
tar xzvf tectonic-1.4.7-tectonic.1.tar.gz
cd tectonic/tectonic-installer

Run the Tectonic Installer.

./$PLATFORM/installer

Where $PLATFORM is one of: linux, darwin or windows.

A browser window should open to begin the GUI installation process.

Step 2: Install

Be sure to read the known issues section in the Troubleshooting guide before you install.

Follow the on-screen instructions to provision your cluster. This process should take about 10-15 minutes.

Once complete you should be able to access your Tectonic Console.

If you encounter any errors check the troubleshooting documentation.

Known Installation Issue

There is a known issue in the Tectonic installer version 1.4.7-tectonic.1. This will be addressed in the next release of the installer, but there is a workaround documented below.

If the bootkube-start command doesn't exit with something similar to:

Your ssh session may have been prematurely disconnected. Either run the bootkube-start command again, or try this command instead:

ssh core@$HOSTNAME 'sudo systemd-run --unit bootkube-start.service bash -c "cd /home/core && /home/core/bootkube-start"; journalctl -u bootkube-start.service -f'

Where $HOSTNAME is replaced by the value shown in the installer.

Now you are ready to access Tectonic Console, configure kubectl, and deploy your first application to the cluster!
